NOT CHAIRS

Designed by Marie-Rose Kahane for her lifelong friend, artist Not Vital, the NOT Chairs are a limited edition set of three handcrafted walnut chairs that merge Swiss alpine tradition with contemporary conceptual design.

Each chair is carved from solid walnut and handmade in Switzerland at the workshop of Stefan Trutmann. The design is based on the historic “Stabelle”, a traditional Swiss chair whose earliest examples date back to the 14th and 15th centuries.

The chairs’ sculptural backrests are inspired by the mountains of the Engadine, with each chair featuring a distinct alpine silhouette: Piz Languard, Piz Mezdi, and Piz Muragl. The backs are individually inscribed with the letters N, O, and T —a direct reference to Not Vital and the personal dedication embedded in the work.

Each set of three chairs is signed and numbered, and produced in a limited edition of 12.
